File photo from February 5, when Highlands families, neighborhood residents, Highlands staff and others gathered to hear renovation options. A community meeting on the proposed plans for a new Highlands Elementary School is set for Wednesday, September 19 at 6:30 pm. The meeting will be held in the gym.
Hutchison Smith Architects has been working on the design phase throughout the summer months. According to the Boise School District, many suggestions made by neighbors and stakeholders were considered during the design process, including:
In March, the Boise School District decided to rebuild rather than renovate the school, after detailed analysis and survey results from more than 600 members of the community. The project is expected to cost $9,680,000 and is part of a bond passed by Boise voters in March 2017. Highlands Elementary students will be relocated while the school is rebuilt. Neighbors ask for updated letter regarding Highland View Drive candlesticksFind attached a revision to the draft letter to ACHD and the City. It was pointed out by several people that the survey did not ask that the candles be removed, but rather, asked if they were viewed as effective. Additionally, the letter was silent to what action ACHD might take regarding the candles. We've made some modifications accordingly. Also – we picked up another survey so the survey numbers changed slightly too. All the changes are noted in Track Change. Please have a final look. Assuming that there are no more significant changes (like this issue with the candles), I'll ask the Committee to vote on this letter after next Wednesday 9/12/18. THANKS! – Tom Seacord, HNA Traffic Committee Chair
8/28/2018 Traffic Committee UpdateSorry for the delay – but our Highland View Drive survey results are in… And, we had 203 responses to the survey and a 67% response rate for residents living on Highland View Drive. Thank you to everyone who participated, and thank you to the volunteers to collected surveys, helped compile and back check the survey results. Please find attached the following:
Please review the draft letter and if you have any suggestions, please email me any comments ([email protected]). Please provide your comments by Wednesday September 5, 2018. I will maintain a track change copy of the letter. Depending on the number of comments – I’ll either repost the (track change) letter and ask our Traffic Committee Members to approve or reject the comments, or, if there are a lot of comments, I may call a meeting. Either way, we will post the updated letter and the committee will vote in an open manner. Thank you! -Tom Seacord, HNA Traffic Committee Chair

What's better than a neighborhood picnic? How about a FREE neighborhood picnic!
Save the date for this year's annual Highlands Neighborhood Association Picnic on Thursday, June 14 at the Highlands Elementary picnic shelter. Due to donations from last year's picnic and grants received over the course of the past year, the HNA Executive Team decided that it can cover the costs of the gathering without asking for additional donations. Hot dogs, soda pop, water, plates and utensils will be provided by the HNA. Neighbors will, however, still be asked to bring a dish to share. More details to come in May, but be sure to put the date on your calendar! 4/19/2018 Updated minutes from HNA Annual MeetingUpdated minutes from the annual HNA meeting are now available on the Resources and Information page. Some corrections were made to the update given by Highlands Cove developer Dave Yorgason.
4/19/2018 City of Boise asks for citizen inputThere are just a few days left to participate in a survey on the City of Boise's service to its residents. The last day to submit comments is Sunday, April 22. The survey is available at: http://boisecitizensurvey.com/.
The survey was initially distributed to a random, scientific sample of about 12,000 households. It is now open to all residents to "get the broadest possible participation," according to a news release on the city's website. The survey, which takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete, asks for feedback for the mayor and city council, paying bills for city services, and registering for city-run classes and activities, among other things. “We are on a mission to better serve our residents through their daily interactions with us and we want to understand how we can better meet their needs,” said Mayor David Bieter. “We hope everyone will take this opportunity to give their perspective on what Boiseans want from their city government.” More than two dozen Highlands residents attended the Highlands Neighborhood Association's annual meeting on Tuesday, April 17. During the meeting, HNA board members provided a review of accomplishments over the past year including the most recent (and final) chipper truck program in the Highlands, neighborhood grants received and updates to the HNA website. Neighbors also heard updates from Highlands Cove Developer Dave Yorgason, Traffic Committee Chair Tom Seacord, and Sam Sandmire, who has been leading the effort to bring stakeholders together to fund a new restroom facility at the Harrison Hollow Trailhead. At the end of the meeting, elections were held for the 2018-19 HNA officers. Those elected are:
